Broga Hill is an off-the-beaten-track tourist spot located in Semenyih, Malaysia, a sleepy town situated about 40 km southeast of the capital Kuala Lumpur. It is a popular destination for locals who are interested in outdoor activities, especially hiking and nature exploration. One unique aspect of Broga is its close proximity to the University of Nottingham Malaysia, a branch campus of the UK-based university. This has led to a growing number of international students and a diverse population in the town.In this post, I will be sharing with you some of the best things to do and places to visit in Broga Hill.
1. Sak Dato Temple
Sak Dato Temple, located in Broga, Malaysia, is a hidden gem that is not to be missed. This beautiful temple is nestled in the heart of a peaceful forest and is surrounded by lush greenery, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere. The temple features a traditional Chinese architecture with intricate designs and ornate (but weird) decorations. Fruit decor installations are prominently displayed throughout the temple. The interior of the temple is adorned with vibrant colors, intricate carvings and artwork that depict the history and beliefs of the local people. There is also a walkable suspension bridge which is popular with locals and tourists.
2. Orchard Hill
As the name implies, Orchard Hill in Broga, Malaysia is an expansive orchard with local tropical plants such as durian, mangosteen, pulasan, passionfruit, rambutan and calamansi lime. In addition, it also has a cafe and provides glamping/camping facilities. The orchard is a peaceful and serene retreat nestled in the hills overlooking the surrounding countryside.
3. Hike to the Hilltop of Broga Hill
The most popular attraction in Broga is the Broga Hill (also known as Bukit Lalang), a 400-meter hill that provides a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. The hike to the top of the hill is relatively easy, taking about an hour and is suitable for both beginners and experienced hikers. A very detailed description of the hiking trail to the hilltop can be found in this good blogpost.
4. Camping / Glamping / Resort Homestay
Broga Hill is a good destination for camping and glamping enthusiasts in Malaysia. Camping in Broga Hill provides a great opportunity to immerse oneself in nature and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the surrounding hills. As mentioned earlier, Orchard Hill provides camping or glamping homestays. For travellers not keen on camping, there is also the option of a resort homestay – the Paradise Valley Broga Resort which is 3 km away from Broga Hill Park.
